Normalizing normality

How do you combat the urge to self sabotage?

When, in recovery life is good, your prayers are being answered, and things are simple (borderline boring)?

The chaos is gone but the mind says, “the other shoe will drop aaaany moment now…”

Being handed a gift yet fighting the urge to reach for your wallet.

I have tried to keep in mind I can't control situations. I can only control how I react to them. Its hard sometimes but helps me find peace usually not always just usually lol

We are use to living in chaos. Learning to live normal is the struggle. Normalcy is unnatural to addicts. Don’t pick up and keep doing your best to learn that normal.

When healthy me is pushing the buttons and pulling levers up in my head I am more proactive about seeking to do the good stuff, the fun, exciting, pleasant good stuff that is my new center. If you are getting bored and spending a little to much time up in there watching waiting for the badness, maybe do an inventory about what you liked before or during your drinking career and experiment with hobbies or past times that fulfill the same preferences. For example I liked micro brew beers. Now instead of tasty beer I cook tasty food.

Solid advice, Seth- thank you!
To be clear: there is no part of me that romanticizes the old ways. Merely a distrust in the new sometimes.
Thank you again for the inventory concept… gold! :ok_hand:t4:
