Today was an emotional one.
Struggling in the relationship department. My partner and I were really good drunks together and now I'm sober and grateful and he's
cut way back on his drinking but now always seems to run into a friend after work and grab a beer.
I smell the beer on him and find that it gives me a twinge of craving.
I wonder if the "us" we had died with my sobriety. Our relationship doesn't feel the same.
But I'm really and truly grateful that even with really hard conversations coming up, that I didn't cave in and drink one of the many cans of alcoholic beverages that are in the refrigerator at the place where I'm currently house sitting. Alcohol was, for a very long time, a crutch that I'd turn to whenever my emotions ran high. I've truly given it up now and choose to work through the issues that come up instead of drowning them out in booze.
And I'm so grateful it's real this time. I chose me.
So much yes! Keep choosing you and doing the work.
Recovery is all about choices! In early recovery we have to make the choice not to drink everyday all the time. Getting into a daily routine really helps with this. Most programs of recovery will help you stay focused. Once we got that down, we find that to stay sober is more than just abstinence. We have many new choices to make to protect our sobriety and live a more peaceful and happy life. It’s wonderful that you are aware of this!! You do what you need to do for you, and trust that the universe will take care of the rest

Only my personal experience:
I had to get divorced to get sober.
Good job resisting the temptation! I know it is really hard to be around alcohol or someone who still drinks.
