I thought this app would be helpful in connecting with other sober people near me. Is there some way to do that here, or was I expecting something this app doesn't provide?

no way to search for them by location but possibly can randomly find them.
Make a post looking for people in your area!
Or go to AA meetings in your area, there are probably a couple sober people at those.
