Old mans advice

When I was a boy,I was visiting my grandpa on the farm. He had some repairs to do so I went along. While in the barn I asked him why he had so many tools. His answer stuck with me for life. He said, β€œI have these tools because some tools are good for one thing And other tools are horrible at the same thing. This sledgehammer hammer is horrible at fixing a lamp but great at driving posts. This wire stripper is great at helping with wiring but terrible at fixing a window. One tooth cans do everything so I have a tool for each problem.”

Our sobriety is the same way, we have to have a wide range of tools in our box. Even the time we respond to people is a tool. Some folks respond well to the sledgehammer of tough love. Some it will crush like a wine glass. We must see the issue up close to discover the right tool. I have a lot of tools to keep me sober.

What tools do you use most?

Beautifully said! Love it!
I too have a few tools for recovery. DBT skills and setting boundaries are a few.
I also have a lot of tools for work. Being a contractor myself you Grandpa was right! Some tools can do multiple things. Basically keep you tools close by and sharp. Ready for action.
Thank you for sharing

Thank you

Great story! When talking about tools for our Recovery I always ask what the most important tool in a carpenters tool box? The answer is the ruler because it never changes . An inch is an inch and a foot is a foot. In recovery we need standards that never change it’s called Truth. Would you hire a carpenter to build you a house and not measure? What would that house look like :eyes:
