Relapse is part of many people in recovery’s journeys. There isn’t shame in slipping, what’s important is to get honest with those close to us and make adjustments to keep moving forward. I understand the embarrassment, but remember that many have been there and still succeeded!
Unfortunately my family had to be avoided in the beginning and none of them drink… just trigger me. After some sober time, therapy and AA…. It’s no longer an issue.
I love my family!! But is so necessary to leave them behind. I need to help myself now
It doesn’t have to be forever, I just took a break. They knew I was getting sober and it was kind of chalked up to ‘he needs some space’ which I did.
I love my family, but God knows my heart and I'm not going to disrespect anyone here. With that, I'll say that I do not like the overwhelming majority of my family. Neither would most reasonable, rational people here that have even the tiniest bit of self esteem and confidence.
This even sounds funny to say today now that I get it, but I'm not morally and (or) legally required to associate, affiliate or invest time with them. I don't even have to entertain messages and their feelings they attempt to communicate to me through others. Yea, they're those type of control freaks.
Do I wish it was different ? Answer is that I previously did wish things were different. But now that I've learned to accept life of life's terms (key) and quit wishing and trying to change anyone other than myself, I stopped wishing. Wishing just isn't part of recovery. But what is part of recovery is giving certain people and certain places a gift. This gift is called the Gift of Goodbye and "for me"' I had to give it to certain people and some of them happen to share a biology with me.
I'm not suggesting you do this, but I just know what's worked for many people I've watched recover and know have experienced successful and productive sobriety. I've since followed their lead.
Have a great day everyone and thanks for letting me bloviate, preach, share, vent, carryon..........
