Omggggg, so upset with my self I have rl Relaxed

Omggggg, so upset with my self I have relapsed again. My family is my biggest trigger. I need to do some serious soul searching and be honest with my therapist.

I’m getting off a long relapse - back to “can’t sleep” for next couple days anyways. Hang in there - a single slip up? Should be easy to get back on proverbial wagon.

Thanks David. I’m so confused how can my biggest supporters in my family also be my biggest trigger I don’t even know if that makes sense

Hi thats so tough! I get that about your family being your biggest trigger- its hard when those who are supposed to support you cause you to relapse wether it was their intention or not :frowning: I hope you find good support here and dont beat youraelf up for a relapse!! healing isnt linear or all or nothing! Ive relapsed so many times and my therapist always says 'its where you go from here/do afterwards thats more important'.

Not sure if any of that was helpful but wishing you the best!!!!!

Leave wallet and money at home - go for a long walk. Exercise is very calming. (Leaving money at home means you can’t walk to a bar)

Really good free therapy available at meetings too. When I relapsed, I always looked at what I needed to change. Eventually I figured it out.

Hi Mary, family can definitely be triggering. Do you have a network of sober people you can reach out to when you are feeling triggered? Going to some kind of recovery meeting is also helpful, and there are so many different programs: AA, The Luckiest Club, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, Refuge Recovery, Tempest, Celebrate Recovery.

Hi Mary, a network of sober people do not have to be your family or from your culture. You can obtain relationships like that through a program. It has been my experience that the best way to stay sober is to be vulnerable with people. If you want something you have never had before, you have to do things you have never done before.

Hey Mary, sometimes relapse is apart of the journey, I hope you don’t beat yourself up to much. This disease is a beast! My mom is one of my biggest triggers so I totally understand where you are coming from. I hope your therapist can help you with tools to navigate them, but I believe in you and I’m so proud of you for getting back up and trying! If you ever need a sober sister reach out any time!

You have to realize you are the leader of the family. They look up to you. You have to act accordingly.
