On day 2 of no drinking after binge drinking on

On day 2 of no drinking after binge drinking on NYE and blacking out in front of my kids. So sick of the cycle and don’t know where to turn for help. Is AA the way to get local support or does anyone have other suggestions. I’m afraid to go to a meeting by myself

AA is a powerful tool, I would recommend trying a few meetings to find your people. Download the meetings app it will tell you where meetings are. You can also download the AA online app and start there if you are nervous about attending a meeting alone. But I personally hope you can get past that fear and attend live meetings you will find love and support there it’s a good place to be.

Thank you for the recommendation on the app I will try that and see if maybe there is a woman’s group or an online meeting to get me started.

Yes call the when and where

I know it’s hard to not be slightly anxious approaching your first meeting. But rest assured you’re likely to find very accepting, friendly and caring folks who simply want to help you!

You are probably still detoxing from your blackout. I made a promise to my 13yr old after my blackout. I totalled my car hit a tree and my car started in fire, ended up in jail. Lost my phone. He was home alone worried and knew something bad had happened. He called my sister and she came over to get him. So it wasn't the thousands of dollars this "good time" cost me it was leaving my middle school age child without a mother. I'm a single mom. And the real heart break is my sister said he was blaming himself. If he would of just went with me like I asked I wouldn't of gotten so bad.
The first second I saw him I apologized and said none of this is his fault! And to make sure this never happens again I will never drink alcohol again. We hugged he accepted my apology and I'm 3 months sober going one day at a time. Every day is a choice NOT to drink. I really hope you can stop for your kids sake😊

I would also recommend looking into outpatient rehab. And a therapist. You will attend group meetings a certain number of times per week, you will have a one on one with your counselor usually once a week, and will be randomly given drug tests. The number of times/week depends on your assessment and intake. Most all insurances cover it. I've also heard of zoom AA meetings but don't know how to access those.

I have a call in to my doctor to see if she has outpatient recommendations. I struggle between knowing I need outside help but also feeling like an imposter and not a real
Addict because I don’t to hard drugs and feel like so many people have it worse than me.

Please don't be afraid to ask for help! We all need it from time to time. Your struggle is just as valid as anyone else's. Your doctor will be able to help you find an outpatient facility that works with your insurance and can write a referral! Good on you for taking that first step! I believe in you!

Also they do have medications that can help. I took rx Antibuse yrs ago. I would take it if I was going where alcohol was. Like a event, holiday, party. Basically if u drink you get sick. It's not a daily pill for me it was as needed.

I didn’t know that thank you. I will ask my doctor about that! That is the hardest like work functions and family get togethers so that may be a good option.

I am in the EXACT same boat as you. I’m going to my first meeting this evening. Something needs to change this year. And nothing changes if nothing changes

It’s important to find connections/friends/mentors that can help you stay on your sober path. AA works for some people, but it’s not for everyone (I’m one of those I cannot stand it and tried 10 or so different meetings and got a sponsor and everything) It’s worth checking out though if you’re curious.
Staying sober takes a lot of work but you’re worth it! Hang in there!

Carla are their other social groups you’ve found that work other than AA?

I’ve not found any specifically, but getting involved in your community by volunteering or taking up some new hobbies might be a good way of getting out there. I found a mentor through massage therapy training who happened to be sober.

Plus now that you’re not drinking there’s more time for activities!
