On Humility

I was asked to lead a meeting earlier, a more Christian-oriented kind than your standard AA...I decided to select a topic that I tend to struggle with as opposed to one I know well: humility. Using Philippians 2:1-11 as a starting point, it's occurred to me that humility is one of our strongest weapons in the fight against addiction- isn't the first step to realize we don't have control? There is a certain tranquility that can be gained by handing the reigns of your life over to a Higher Power and taking things in stride- not to try to be a perfectionist and beat yourself down for each mistake you make. We are all broken people, and only by fulfilling our purpose- in whatever metaphysical capacity we select- can we be repaired. The humility it takes to even be on this app or in AA, to admit to that brokenness- it is the first step because it's the most intrinsic one to recovery.

Sorry for rambling about obvious things, just having leftover thoughts from the meeting.

Thanks for sharing Thomas S

Thanks for sharing Thomas!! Many people have issues with this power vs powerless topic. For me the power comes from being powerless. My nature is to fight. I’m always overthinking everything that I really have very little control of. When I surrender to the fact that I’m powerless, I now have the power within me to act accordingly.
