On the cusp of 48 and 4 years sober

Finding myself grateful today for everything that I have. My children are healthy and happy, so are my loved ones and the rest of my family.

My divorce is almost final and I find myself starting a new chapter in my life. New job, new home, new routines, new problems .. problems that I am happy to have and I know I can always work through.

I remember what it was like early on when I started my journey for getting clean. It is scary. It was hard. For me, learning how to get vulnerable and recognize that having somebody help me is okay, was the hardest part. I learned from a lot of different programs and I put together my own program, a regimen that works for me. Don't stop fighting don't stop trying.

I got to go kayaking today and I of course saw plenty of people having alcoholic beverages while on the water... There was probably a millisecond or two where that old feeling took a pull on me, but thankfully, my gratitude helped me to recognize that being sober today allowed me to really enjoy everything that mother nature had to offer.

Great first share brother! Welcome to Loosid! I noticed on your profile that SMART Recovery is your POC (program of choice). Mine is AA, with a little bit of anything and everything else that I like. I look forward to hearing you share your experience, strength, and hope.

I love this, was just thinking about this today. Take the best and leave the rest. I use AA 12 steps, a bit of Buddhism and a few other things. Great post and congrats on your recovery.
