Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.
I don't agree with that not sure if I'm supposed to but I e
I'm with you, Michael.
If I am not mistaken AA followers say "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic."
Agreed! Once you pickle a cucumber, it's always a pickle... There's no chance at being a cucumber again. The word alcoholic doesn't have to be a dark label though. Many alcoholics who are honest with themselves use the word as a reminder to fight hard for a better life. It's all perception. Personally, I'm happy to identify as a "grateful recovering alcoholic" because without understanding the true definition of an alcoholic, I would be doomed!!
The first thing I do when my eyes open in the morning is tell myself that I’m an alcoholic and ask myself what I’m going to do about it. It’s kept me sober for 2+ years worth of mornings.
To each their own. Referring to myself as an alcoholic doesn't help me.
This argument isn’t fruitful. I don’t drink anymore. I am not cured of my disease. How can I be addicted to something I don’t use? I never used cocaine but know that with my drinking and using history if I use cocaine it is no different from drinking a bottle of whiskey or shooting morphine. I only use the term alcoholic or addict in fellowship. 1023 days clean and sober. Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic implies nothing changes. Recovery is possible, ie things can change. 12 step programs work if they are worked. Dry and miserable isn’t enough for me. I don’t selector for good enough recovery.
Thank you for sharing.. dry and miserable is not for me either.
“I didn’t get clean to be miserable.”
It’s kind of like have s3x.. if your not enjoying it why bother
I am a sober alcoholic today.
I may tell anyone that I’m an alcoholic but I have no right to tell anyone else that they are.
Ha you can call me whatever you want, just don’t call me late for dinner.
I am the daily maintainer of my spiritual condition.I have found access to a massive Power that keeps me from the insane and baffling idea that a drink will be different next time
I had a cruddy emotional response to reading your post last night and started to reply. Then I decided to sleep on it. This morning I woke up and realized I have fully accepted my relationship to mood altering chemicals and behaviors and other people haven’t gotten there yet. Alcohol is an addictive chemical just like caffeine. Drink enough of it and anyone with develop an addiction. But we are different. As a parent of two step daughters, we could tell that one of them is very likely to deal with addiction by the age of 6. I don’t agree with “once an alcoholic”. People with addictive tendencies are just like people with peanut allergies. It’s just the way we are wired and it’s not a moral failing or a weakness, it’s just like an allergy and we have to avoid certain things.
Only if you think so and accepting it
Yes be cautious. We are playing with fire.
Never slip.
I like your quote.
Is allergies and addiction) the same.
