One down… I feel pretty good today, however, I had something strange happen. I got up this morning and did my usual routine. Took the dogs for a walk, got everybody fed made coffee and all of the sudden hi had a craving for wine. I have never had a Drink in the morning since I was in college (25 years ago). My cravings usually kick in once I shut down my computer for the night. Now all the sudden I wanted to drink at 7 AM??? It was a fleeting thought but I still thought it was strange.
That’s the addiction playing tricks right there! I’ve had that happen too. Think of it like a kid asking for a cookie at 7AM..if you tell them no but at lunch or dinner they can have one they might be a little upset but will settle for “the deal.” If you tell them flat out no, they will start trying to negotiate a deal.. If you stick to your word it will be constant nagging at first and they will keep trying all day. Eventually, they will see you are not giving in and will stop.
It is so not cool that our addiction does this to us but stick to your word and keep telling it NOOOOO!!
What a great analogy!!
Thank you! I am working really hard to learn about addiction more. If I/we don’t understand the different components and see that we are addicts I believe we will eventually fail. The more I understand and relate is really helping me!
You made it through a night and you can make it through another and another morning and afternoon, one millisecond at a time
If you are an alcoholic, the disease progresses even when we aren’t drinking and in recovery. As alcoholics, it is not abnormal for us to want to drink or think about it. It’s the action I know that I take when those thoughts arise that matters. You shared it here; That’s Huge.
