One most important pieces of NA literature comes from the very thing you hear time and time again but may not be aware of, and if you're unaware you're unable to give attention to:

"How it works"
There is one thing more than anything else that will defeat us in our recovery; this is an attitude of indifference or intolerance toward spiritual principles.

Abstinance is key, but it is not the end all be all. In my opinion, the drugs themselves only account for ~25% of the problem. That other 75%? Recognizing and exploring/addressing your inequities, shortcomings, where the hurt is coming from. Which negative emotions speak loudest and where are they coming from. Where along the way, what experience(s) did they grab hold of your life and rule your thinking? Depression is a mental disease. Heal your mind, find the solution! It all comes from your journey within yourself. Explore yourself. Who were you? Who are you?
