One thing I’ve hated since I stopped drinking is the negative way people react to when you say “I don’t drink” it’s like instantly you’re weird or something is wrong with you etc. they judge you for drinking but they judge you even more for NOT drinking. I just don’t get it. Why do I have to drink to be appealing to someone? Makes no sense
I just accept I'd rather be weird than drunk. They also want to accept that it's a good thing to be a little different than most.
There is nothing wrong or weird about being who you are and not conforming to what someone else thinks is normal. Who is the wrong one?
You are beautiful just the way you are.
There will come a time, when you settle into your sobriety. In long term sobriety, you will have more money, your health will be better, your head clearer, you will do things you never thought possible, you will have a wisdom normal people don’t. You will have the super power of sobriety and you will not be embarrassed of it.
My sponsor tells me that what other people think of me is none of my business.
This isn’t very AA of me, but fu(k those normies.
They are basic
This drives me insane too! Surprisingly, my biggest supporters are my hockey friends who tell me I'm skating better than ever and that I should have quit drinking a long time ago..go figure eh?
I believe the saying "Misery loves company" to be entirely true in this regard. They will never get it and the majority of them need help just as bad as we did/do. I second Shawn "fu(k em"
I pay them no mind. I compare the me today to the me 2 years ago.
I think active drinkers are somewhat threatened by sobriety. I’ve noticed the friends I used to drink heavily w are supportive of my decision but have no interest in talking about the why or the benefits of being sober and the risks of heavy drinking. They don’t want to think of themselves in that light. I didn’t either until I was ready to quit. I’m newly sober so I’m just trying to focus on my journey for now. I do hope I can b a good example for others tho.
