One thing recovery has been teaching me lately is that familiar is not the same as safe.

Some people can care about your sobriety and still not be safe for your full truth. Some people can help you and still not be your people. And some of the safest people are the ones you do not have to perform recovery around.

I’m still learning the difference between staying guarded, oversharing, and actually letting trust build the way it is supposed to.

That middle ground is hard, but I think that’s where real connection starts.
