One year alcohol-free!

(Day 368, 1-Year, 3-days :crown:)

BOOM! This weekend, March 2nd, marked 1-year since I last had alcohol.

One of my initial thoughts leading up to the 1-year anniversary was, “it’s not that big of a deal”. I even had a few folks ask how I was feeling getting closer, and my reply was one that didn’t put a whole lot of weight in reaching the milestone.

In fact, to illustrate how detached I was, the thought of actually celebrating with drinking briefly floated across my mind. SMFH :man_facepalming:t5:

Now that I’m on the other side, I would be doing myself a great disservice to not acknowledge and honor the longest period of time I’ve ever gone without having a drink since I began drinking at the age of 19 or 20.

Being fully transparent, the results I’ve garnered have been far and wide from the changes I anticipated to experience. I somehow romanticized outcomes that were more suited for a Disney movie than what has actually come through.

But that’s actually the best part of it. The gifts of sobriety have provided me with super-powers that are now part of my being but can also simultaneously be given away in any moment. That’s crazy right?! This ain’t for the feint of heart, but it has been one of the most significant decisions of my existence.

It hasn’t been easy and my cravings to drink can still easily be activated. That said, what I’ve come to appreciate was that I was likely directed (Divinely guided) to put down the alcohol in order for me to do the work that is currently before me which is healing.

I wouldn’t have had the clarity, capacity, or wherewithal to do the work if I was still drinking. I thought this alcohol-free journey was just about drinking but have come to see it’s about a much greater journey than I ever would have imagined.

I don’t know what the future holds but I’m committed to continue onwards to see what is for me to discover. Thank you to everyone in this amazing community who have supported me on this mission, I appreciate you always . . . :crown::pray:t5::sparkles:
