Only sober a few days and my mom wanted me to come to thanksgiving. The rest of my family doesn’t want me around cause of the horrible things I said. My sis showed up and wouldn’t even come in when she saw my car. Tried apologizing to her…ended up leaving and going home. Really want to drink but I’m not going to.
Hey Chuck, you’re doing great.
Pretty sure it took you longer than 1 afternoon to end up in your predicament, so it stands to reason that it will take just as long to get out of it.
Stay the course. Find a program of recovery. Over time people will come to believe in the new you.
Hang in there buddy! We’ve all caused a ton of wreckage with our insanity. I was told to look at it from their side of things. I gave out a lot of empty apologies in the past, so most didn’t want to hear another. The best thing you can do is stay sober and show them you have changed. It takes time. We can’t expect years of damage to be cleaned up in days, weeks, months etc. You can do it Chuck. Just keep doing the right things.
Thanks. I have been hitting meetings every day and that does help.
Thanks man
Some times we need to stay a way for a time.like a year .
It takes awhile to get trust back...you have to earn it. But after some time, they'll see where your heart is if you stick with it! Awesome job not drinking over it!! I went to a couple alanon meetings as per my sponsors suggestion to deal with understanding the importance of patience with ppl. not trusting me. That was probably one the heaviest experiences I've had in sobriety!!!
Well I talked to my mom last night. She said my sister, who had a problem with me being there, had been drinking all day. So I’m sure that didn’t help the situation. I’m just glad that I didn’t drink over it. That was my first test I guess.
You passed
Hey Chuck,
I’ve been exact same situation, you are doing the right thing. Show up and let them see you are sober. It took my sister a year and a half to start having a conversation with me. To me my kids, ex-wife and my parents were the most important to restore my relationship and trust with first. You can’t fix all of your damaged relationships in a day or even in a year. Also you may never get family, friends or co-workers to forgive you. You will need to do your best to mend those relationships but if you have exhausted all efforts then you’ve done everything you can. Accept that you have done everything you could and then move on, if you can’t then that may lead to a relapse.
Hang in there Chuck. Living amends is the best thing you can do and and you are doing it! The more your family sees the sober you the more they will begin to trust again. You will begin to trust yourself too. Only 28 days here but I can already see the small affects of change. One day at a time.
Living amends If we don’t drink and use we will not be that person any more it is a family disease
Trust me the last few years have been like that for me as well. My entire family hates me. The only person talking to me is my mom. Don't give up hope or your sobriety. Especially over this. Put you first for once that's the only way you can get through this. I know it hurts but I'm told if you keep working hard and staying sober the people around you may start changing their attitudes about you when they realize you are changing for good.
Thank god for moms!! Lol
Early in sobriety I didn’t even understand what I really needed to make amends for. That’s why we work the steps in order. By the time we get to 8 and 9 we are ready to make meaningful amends. Be patient, and most importantly stay sober.
I have a sister. What a beautiful blessing she has been
Want want want take take take everyone has to fight an force things whatever
Isn’t it nice when god gives us a ground ball to start with. The biggest problems are the ones where we can make big, meaningful changes in short order. If you put in effort you get results. You do the work, hp delivers the results. They may not be what you think you need, but you’ll certainly know they are there.
Hey, congratulations you winner! You didn't use and that's the true Thanksgiving. I've been sober for 33 years and some people haven't come to terms or forgive me. And guess what, I haven't used it and I continue to do the work. I make meetings, talk to other members, have a sponsor and I keep coming back. Forgiveness begins with you. Forgive yourself first. You'll have exactly who you need not want to guide you on this journey of sobriety not who you want. Your Higher Power knows who, what, when, why and how is best for you. One.day at a time. Love you much. Ps. Seems like your mom has forgiven you.
