What does everyone think about drinking no alcohol beer and spirits while in recovery? I’m 33 days sober and curious if people think it’s safe or a potential path back to alcohol.
I like the taste, I’m 8 months sober and once and a while pick up a pack of N/A beers, and recently found really good N/A wine and I get to go out to BYO restaurants and have a glass of wine and it rules. On New Years I had a delicious N/A champagne.. it also really helps my anxiety when hanging in places that people are drinking. If you think it’ll lead you back to drinking, I’d say definitely don’t do it. I personally love the influx of all of the N/A drinks.
Thank you for your reply! If you don’t mind, what was the N/A wine you found?
I would say why even chance it.
I also do NA BEER and the NA of all the spirits are coming and some are very good!!!!! After just like 2 I am done and go back to my sparkling water. Haven’t drank and have NO desire too!!! Word for today ONWARD have a good night all!!!!
If it doesn't trigger you, do it.
Whatever works for you go with it
It all depends on you and your level of comfort. There’s so much good stuff these days that has the alcohol cooked out of it. I still like the taste of beer believe it or not. Spiritless canned cocktails are really becoming a thing too.
I used to drink daily, budweiser was my go to drink. When I decided to stop I wanted something similar without the alcohol, kind of like quitting smoking! Penns best is very good and an awesome price to boot. They have an amazing assortment of NA products out there now too.
Me personally I’m afraid it will trigger me, but I also don’t miss the taste of any of it. There is a lot of N/a beers out there spirits, and wine. If it doesn’t trigger you then I’d say go enjoy them, but you probably won’t know it triggers you until smell it or taste it so be careful!
Having NA beer is the one thing that i’ve done that hasn’t triggered me, but a lot of people have warned me away from them. I suggest starting with NA Kombucha which gives the fermented vibe with less carry over. See how that goes over a month or two and check back in.
Everyone has a different opinion on this. For me it helped immensely in early sobriety especially in social settings. I would bring NA beers with me everywhere when meeting up with people especially when there was drinking going on. If I had a hard day and got triggered I’d go have one at home. Over time I drank less NA beers/spirits and now it’s a treat when I want something different.
Only you can make that decision. If you want to try some go ahead, if it triggers you, stop drinking them. Be smart about them. Be mindful when drinking them. Good luck on your journey and congrats on 33 days!
I like Bud Zero. It doesn’t trigger me.
I personally enjoy them. If it triggers you definitely not a good idea. But I like being able to hang out with people with a beer look alike drink in front of me.
As many have said, your mileage may vary. I especially enjoy Heineken 0. I've been pretty lucky. At my local Whole Foods, I recently counted TWENTY-FIVE different NA beers (I've tried a few and enjoy them at a range of levels) not including 3 different sparkling hop waters or 3 different dealcoholized mocktails. I've found that I can have 1 or 2 and be content, something that never happened with "real" beer. Pick the path that gets you to where you want to be and travel as fast or slow as you feel most comfortable. Good luck and safe travels!
The wine is called Fre, it’s reeeaally good, you wouldn’t know the difference- maybe unless ur a wino.. not too sweet, not too dry.
Everyday, at least 6 pack of 16 oz Budweisers. Always was my go to
Non alcoholic
I’ve recently tried the non alcoholic wines by Fre. Vodka was my go to, so since I had always enjoyed a dry red (before I got out of control) I gave it a shot. It was really nice actually. No urge to have the actual thing. Just too much sugar in them so it won’t be something I drink regularly. In the best shape of my life after giving up alcohol and sugar. 3 1/2 years now
Good luck to you!
I have heard that even non alcoholic beverages still have a little bit of alcohol in them. True or not I do not know. I my self at this point will not try it.
