Can someone suggest a program to quit alcohol other than AA? I tried AA but it doesn't work for me.

Try SMART Recovery

Celebrate Recovery (Christian based
Those are but a couple.
Some have found success in therapy, some in church-based programs.

When you say you tried AA, you didn't specify much. A couple of meetings under the radar doesn't translate for most folks.

The part where they recite "Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path...." is for real.

Perhaps you might have cut it off before you gave it an adequate chance (meetings, sponsor, steps and service).

Just a suggestion.

One thing that works for me is outpatient therapy. It’s really laid back, can say whatever you want, and is very interactive.

I was in a AA group clean and sober over 90 days. I begged for a sponsor and no one offered to sponsor me. I relapsed. After a few months I tried again. I got a temporary sponsor. He never called me. Texted him several times and he told me that I was doing good. When I hit a rough spot near the weekend. He said, I have a hard time during the weekends too. Never called me or answered my calls. Could be that I just had some bad luck. However, I want to try something different. I have never had good experiences in life when I have to depend on others.

What helped me off the drugs was definitely outpatient hospitalization therapy. Made me realize I even had a drug addiction to THC and narcotics actually. I had 3 Slip ups and the last one gave me a major wake up call. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Maybe I'm stubborn but I've always had to do things of my own volition, too- otherwise I would still feel like someone "made" me.

But finding people who supported me has been a total game changer.

Sounds like you had some bad luck with sponsors. That’s unfortunate, but not the norm. Especially for men. It’s far more difficult for women in AA to find adequate sponsorship. I hope you give it another try. It saved my life.

What do you have to do outside of “being an addict” ? Who are you outside of that identity?

I went to detox and went to meetings every morning (,manatory) I don't use AA or NA but detox worked for me

Yeah, that doesn’t sound right. If you do ever return to A.A. definitely try some other meetings.

Keep going to meetings until you like it. The disease will tell you that the meetings are stupid because… it doesn’t want you to be or stay sober.
