I am out of control. I have everything to lose, yet I still choose to drink. My mental health is not where it needs to be and drinking is causing me to spiral out of control.
I know… go to meetings, get a sponsor…. I’m doing those things, yet I still choose to drink.
I contacted an outpatient rehab a week and a half ago, gave them all of my info including insurance, but never heard back.
I’m failing my family and I’m failing myself.
Have we talked about rehab before? I feel like we have, but I’m not sure. It sounds like where I was, when I decided to pack my bags for a 28 day vacation.
I can’t do inpatient rehab. I’ve been on medical leave from work for over a month and am trying to go back. I’m a commissioned sales rep, so my income is basically nothing at the moment and has been for 6 weeks. Another month would put me in a hole I wouldn’t be able to get out of
What happens in a month, when you lose that job, because you can’t get yourself sober? My can’t changed to I need to, when I realized that I was going to lose everything if I didn’t make a big move. It’s surprising how big of a hole we can get ourselves out of, once we get and stay sober.
I don’t know if I ever would have found my break through moment “surrender” without the gift of inpatient rehab.
You might check out the intensive outpatient (iop) listings I. Sober helps here in the app, or try the telehelp section. They can give you a number of options.
I feel ya man, money is a big blocker for a lot of us. If you can’t pay the bills you wind up in a real bad situation. I would definitely talk to a doctor about options as well. If you are already on medical leave you may try temporary disability. That may give you the time you need to regroup.
Check out sober living opportunities. There’s a house near me in the county and the guys all go to my meeting. Many of them work while living there. A sober living facility could be the best option for you. Accountability, support, and you can still work.
On the menu at the bottom of home page is a tab for resources. Many options might be listed for your area.
Marke you don’t choose to drink anymore than you would choose to have cancer. You’re sick, just like all of us are. The difference is that we have found relief in the form of recovery. Everyone’s recovery looks just a bit different, but the first step is surrendering your will.
Your way didn’t work. So you’ve got to try a new way. And that is hard af. But it’s not impossible. Rehab is a great place to learn that surrender. Meetings. Church. Yoga. Whatever works for you. But the longer you try to control it, the harder it’s going to get.
Finally I just gave up and took the second step of AA. I had faith for the first time in my life. Because I saw the proof. I saw sober people who used to be like me but weren’t anymore. So I did what they did and I got what they had.
Whatever you put in front of your sobriety you're going to lose anyway. You may as well check in & do it right
I’m doing outpatient. If I do inpatient, I will lose my house.
I’m assuming outpatient must have some success rate, otherwise they wouldn’t offer it
Not once did you mention that you WANT to stop drinking. Sounds like you're pre-occupied with all the things you may lose. Outpatient can be helpful to those who want sobriety. If you just want the bleeding to stop, you may be in for a rude awakening. Good luck on your journey.
I had to make being sober your #1. Over everything else. If I'm drunk I have nothing anyways.
The outpatient I did was corporate hospital run. There were very few involved that were in recovery themselves. The program was expensive and very ineffective for me. Maybe they are not all that way. The inpatient rehab I was in required ALL employees (counselors and support staff) to be in recovery themselves. It makes a really big difference. The time away from all of my other problems allowed me to see what was really important, too. Believe it or not it turned out to not be jobs or houses or other stuff. But that’s just my experience on the difference between the two. By the time I went I just wanted to be free of the fu(king insanity.
Sounds very familiar to me. Absolutely nothing against AA or any type of program it's a true and tried method. Humans are different in o many ways of course the 2, 3, 4 go-to methods might not work. I've tried most programs, experiments
, etc. It realty comes down to being more honest with yourself. You either exist with a purpose or exist in a forgettable tornado. Best of luck!
