Outreach calls

My sponsor is pushing me to do outreach calls, and quite frankly I do not want to. I don't feel psychologically safe talking to people I don't know, and I don't quite see how this would help my sobriety. I am working the steps, reading the literature, and going to a meeting almost every day. I have social anxiety as well, and I really hate the need to constantly socialize in order to be part of the AA program.

I understand how you feel. One of the biggest things in this program is service work. Maybe it would help
To flip this around and think of the calls as not Only are they to help you, but maybe you are helping someone else that is struggling. I know when I did them I ended up listening more than talking.

I work in the non profit sector, and spend my whole day doing other types of service work, so it becomes hard for me to continue doing so when my day ends....I am really emotionally exhausted.

Yikes. Yea that’s a no go for me. I’ve attempted AA and forced anything I’m not onboard with.

How much sober time do you have, Urmy?

What is an outreach call?

It's where you're supposed to call other people in AA....

My suggestion is possibly keeping an open mind to be able to do that someday when your ready. The steps say that when your done with them is when to carry the message to others. If it’s causing too much anxiety it’s probably not the right time. I’m sorry this is happening to you. You can do great reach out on this app by just sharing your experience and encouraging others. Small steps can make a big difference. Good luck :four_leaf_clover:
