People say that staying sober takes too much time and effort. Going to a meeting or 2 every week, reading devotionals daily, talking with someone who is struggling: these can add up to a few hours a week.

Compare that time with the amount of time we spent using/drinking, acquiring our drugs of choice, sleeping off hangovers or coming down, and all the other things that go along with being an active addict.

When we put things into perspective like this, then also consider the rewards of staying sober vs. the consequences of using, it becomes quite clear which choice is the correct choice.

And they think drinking doesn't take too much time? That's cray cray.

In the last two years I’ve gone to 500 meetings (no exaggeration). I have had more time to do whatever I wanted to and whatever I needed to. Oh and I get real sleep at night too.

I went to a meeting tonight and I met a friend, newcomer, and a sponsee. We had pizza afterwards and enjoyed the company. Life is so much better in sobriety and when I get outside of myself and help others.
