Perspective in Sobriety

How has sobriety changed your perspective about yourself, others, the workplace, life, etc.?

Realizing everything is all about perspective and reminding myself that others can be different than that of your own.

Changing from I have to get sober to I ‘get’ to be sober, be present and have clarity

That is good. We all need to realize this. There's no growth if we're the same.

Love this!

That I’m not born an introvert, or that I hate people and crowds (more so just stuck in the idea that I should hate people and crowds), but that I simply need to train those social skills without alcohol by putting myself out there and discovering how to channel my anxiety, depression, and anger in real time without self-medicating and rediscovering my ability to express myself in healthy ways.

I've realized that I can't do anything about some people, alot of people, just aren't that intelligent, with very little critical thinking skills. So they act in unconstructive ways, from everything from littering up to much worse things.

It's just how it is, and I have to accept it. Once I accept the things I can't change, alot of my character "defaults" ease up. This was my topic the other night at a meeting I chaired. Steps 6&7, how do you do them if you don't believe in god and you find it completely self deprecating to ask a tree (or a cheeseburger or the ocean or a pound of bacon or whatever HP you want) to "remove" your character defects? Those steps for me were to acknowledge what they were ( counter to a lot of AA's points, we are NOT all selfish etc) and then work on them daily. Acknowledging them was the biggest part of those two steps to me once I got past the gobbledygook of sky Jesus removing defects and brought the accountability back to myself.
