So, I put off having major surgery for quite a while. My doctors have been telling me for years that I needed a hysterectomy. But, I never listened because I didn’t know how I could possibly stop drinking for long enough before and after to actually get it done. To not be able to drink even for one day seemed impossible. Now, over 2 years sober, I finally had surgery 2 weeks ago and am feeling great! Still a few more weeks of recovery and being off of work, but I would’ve never healed as quickly or had such a complication-free experience if I was still drinking. Was also told by the doctor today that the pathology showed it was likely to turn pre-cancerous and then cancerous had I not had surgery. So, sobriety quite literally has saved my life! I’m so grateful! Life is good on the other side, I love it here.
So happy for you Vanessa! Wishing you a strong post surgery recovery
