Good Morning All! Just thought I’d share a little on how I work one of the important parts of my daily program of recovery. Take what you like from it, and leave the rest. AA is the foundation of my recovery, so this post will lean in that direction.
In AA the word powerless is used quite often. It is often used to relieve us of the stress and anxiety of constantly trying to control, worry, and overthink about things we have no control of. The feelings of life being out of control induces a ton of anxiety.
We turn our focus to what we can control…our own actions, thoughts, and choices.
This is where I often need help from a higher power to help me. I came to believe that I am not in control of everything. Basically I’m not God… (whatever the “F” that means lol), and that there is some power or force in the universe that I’m more than happy to let handle all of the sh!t that is out of my control. People talk about taking their “power back”. This is how I take my power back. I try and be mindful every single morning of what I can’t and can control (serenity prayer). Unfortunately, this is not a one and done thing for me. It’s not like flipping the switch to on. For me, I must be very mindful of this (aka have a daily program of recovery), because my default thinking is to try and control everything and get frustrated and resentful with the world around me. I need to be mindful and practice this every day all day. Call me weak, but I like having a friend (my HP) to help me with this. My HP takes care of the stuff that is out of my control, and helps guide me with taking care of myself.
Love the visual on this Lee!
Really, really awesome post, Lee. I so needed this reminder.
Thanks for that.
Ceased fighting everything and everyone. Surrender is the answer.
I like the part about not one and done also. “what we have is a daily reprieve”
Just because I ate breakfast, doesn’t mean I’m good for the day. I need to reaffirm my powerlessness and turn it over throughout the day.
This is great. Thanks for posting.
Yeah I agree. Thanks. Sometimes I get sucked into the vortex of my mind and get stuck there but I’m getting better at realizing when I’m being sucked in.. it’s really difficult tho especially as the day progresses and it’s stresses. But it’s not all crazy. A lot good happens too. Just gotta stay present
Good stuff as always Lee
The big one I have to remember everyday, several times a day is "my reaction or response" to everything outside of my control. Man that's an easy one to derail me sometimes. So I always try (key word) to be constantly conscious of that. Great diagram, I'll be sure to pass it on.
Saving this image - a great daily reminder for me to add to my routine. Thanks for sharing!
