Question for fellow PTSD sufferers:

What strategies have you found useful in overcoming trust issues enough to be able to connect with other people and participate in the recovery community? What tips do you have for someone who struggles with the vulnerability necessary to do so?

For me, I visited AA meetings. I didn’t talk at any until I found meetings where I was comfortable. It took me a while, but I got there.

Listening helped, too, but sharing is where you truly realize the benefits of the meetings, because what you’re sharing helps others.

For me it took time and practice. I figured out “easy” ways to be vulnerable (introducing myself), to start a practice, and slowly built up to actually sharing about the shit going on in my head. Be patient with yourself, it doesn’t all have to happen at once.
