Which step is most important to you and why?

It all starts with step 1. If I can’t admit I’m powerless over alcohol, and my life is unmanageable, then I’m not going to be willing to push forward. The admission/surrender in step 1 make it the most important for me

Steps are cumulative. First things… literally first.

Point A/step 1 = surrender. In step one, I surrender to the reality that is evident -despite or apart from my OWN perception (which as an addict, actively using especially) is: an admission of my powerlessness in the face of my DISease; and the chaos of my self-will, run amok and rampant, that is evidenced by the wreckage and destruction of people, places, and things around me -especially self harm.

Step one is the only step that must be done :100: percent or the other steps just don’t have the power they need to have.

Today I would say that they are all important. Buts it’s not until I’ve done the work and continue to get to meetings that I understood what each step was really about. And it’s not until the last couple years that I clearly see why I should continue to go to meetings. 9/17/14

Good question to ask yourself. Also which is least important? That may be just as instructive to explore. In spiritual terms the chain is strongest at its weakest link.

Step 1 I need to take this step everyday the rest help to quiet my brain and to help me live life on life’s terms.
I will have 30 yrs worth of step 1 in June. Step one my higher power, a sponsor and this fellowship is what has gotten me through and this far today

For me it's 12. 12 is the one that gets me outta myself. And 12 is the one that got me started. Think about it. Someone else's step 12 was me hearing the AA message for the 1st time.
