Question. Has anyone who has been to a medical detox? And what did it consist of?

Question. Has anyone who has been to detox let me know what exactly it consists of? I have detoxed myself on more than one occasion unfortunately, using simple meds that I received from my doctor as well as taking vitamins. My doctor would prescribe me medicine for nausea, clonk done and hydroxizine and that’s basically it. Go through the 7 to 10 days of withdrawal using those meds as prescribed and just deal with it. What is the difference between that and going to a detox? I hear they practically just give you those same meds and that’s it, but obviously they are monitoring you along the way. Has anyone been through that process? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank You

They pump you full of fluids through an IV, they check on you every couple of hours, you're often bedridden, you pee in a cool bottle, they draw blood 2-3 times a day, and you don't get sleep medication like trazadone or hydroxyzine, but you get anti nausea and mild muscle relaxers. Oh, and my badass hardworking nurses are very attractive. Oh, and the food was actually pretty good.

They also wake you up every couple of hours too. You don't sleep there.

I would imagine sleep is hard to come by while detoxing. Always has been for me, even with taking sleep meds I could never get sleep lol

I'm with you buddy, I sleep anywhere between 30 mins and 14 hours every night. I have and will never have no solution to that.

Daniel I tried to self detox several times, and I went right back to drinking. I went to my local hospital to detox, because I knew I couldn’t do it on my own. Detoxing from alcohol is very dangerous, and people have died trying to detox on there own. In my opinion I would detox in a hospital.

I was given two Mather B12 shots and then Ativan for a week in rehab...

I was in detox for 6 days they check your vital every couple of hour and they gave me vitamins then when I was discharged they gave me gabapentin

I felt like $1000. Like a freaking superhero, then I'd usually muck it up a couple weeks. But right out of the hospital, I was a new man.

I’m for all the help I could get. And i agree with Michael, people did from detoxing from alcohol.

I guess I should’ve been more specific. I’ve never had an issue with alcohol, just opiates but I’ve never used a needle. I hate needles! I was prescribed pain medicine years ago for a back condition I have and I’ve weened myself down considerably and now I am going to be off of everything in a few days. I’m concerned about the detox process and how long it will take for me to feel just good enough to go to work. Is detox for opiates and alcohol similar? I know what withdrawals feel like and it’s the worst

Alcohol and opioid detox are not the same. I will tell you that much. Ask a professional.

I know alcohol withdrawals can be really bad and can cause seizures and even death and I’m all too familiar with opiate withdrawals but the medical detox is that much different? I’m just curious as to how they treat the patient during the detox process - if they use similar medications etc etc

What are detoxing from? That will impact what is done with meds.
