Physical or mental abuse should be enough of a reason, in both cases the man doesn’t care enough about her
When her sobriety is in Jeopardy as well as her safety, that's when it's time to leave or at least walk away

In my opinion if it ever becomes a thought it should become a reality. Trust your gut and don't let your emotions influence your instinct. Just make sure you have a safety plan.
