I posted this in a “drama” group on facebook. My comments, though mostly positive and encouraging, were turned off. I am wondering how others have dealt with the questions regarding gaps in employment?

Say that you were taking care of family. If pressed say an elderly parent. Its super inappropriate to ask but not illegal.

As a previous very small employer I would definitely ask and way the response. I would not push beyond that. In my case you would be joining a close nit group. I need to know if you fit. I would try not to lie. Lies tend to backfire.

I hate when employers ask this question!!!! I always tell them i was taking care of my grandma who has dementia which is half true. I have taken care of her in the past but also have taken time away fro work for rehab and whatnots. I totally understand where your coming from ! It’s ok to tell a little white lie on a weird prying question.
