Quick question for my depressed friends -

How do you get yourself to bathe when you can’t stand seeing your own body because you destroyed it by using so much....? Let alone the energy to take care of yourself.. :broken_heart:

There are days when I literally turn the shower on with my eyes closed and in the dark. I also make it a part of my routine without question.
It is an amends to myself for the years of mistreating my body.

Girl, I get where you are coming from.

Your addiction is not a definition of who you are. My insides are so bad, cirrhotic, outside scarred, not good. But we absolutely have to find the beauty in every imperfection and everything we have went through. It makes us stronger, more human, and ultimately more powerful than others who haven’t lived with addiction. Us addicts are actually kind of awesome despite how terrible we may have treated ourselves. Treat yourself with kindness inside and out.

And from one female to another, you are absolutely beautiful. So just know that

I am made of scars at this point. When I look at myself it’s a powerful reminder of why I can’t drink. It reminds you that the past was real. Embrace it and pull strength from it

Hi Kate. When drinking. I could not look at myself either. If I didn’t like me who could? I could put on a full face if makeup and literally never see my face. I really get it. In Sobriety we find beauty emanates from within. It will begin to change your perception of the outside. It takes time. Take that shower. It is a struggle, oh how I know. You will feel better if only for a few mere seconds. Be patient with yourself. It will all come in time. Take care my friend. God bless!

It gets better, but I hear you. Even 2.5 years in motivation of any sort is hard.
