Ran into an old friend. She was a restaurant manager of mine years ago, and her son became a great student of mine. She said I looked great and I told her of the struggle to get this far. She said she is in alanon and hasn’t had a drink in 5 years. Her youngest son is struggling with addiction and in the last year lost her brother in law and father to alcoholism. We talked for half an hour in the middle of the grocery store. Since I am not on other social platforms we exchanged numbers and vowed to check in every once in a while and call if ever needed. Both of us agreed that it can be hard to talk but it is so much easier when the other person knows where you are coming from and your struggles too. That’s why I am so thankful for this platform.
