In the beginning of sobriety, it is pretty easy to sometimes feel like you are the only one of your friends that is on the sobriety train. It feels strange, lonely, confusing, you name it.
But, yesterday I was at a big holiday party when a buddy from long ago pulled me aside and asked to talk to me. This guy and I used to go HARD back in college. But, he pulls me aside and says “I just wanted to congratulate you on your new journey. I heard from a few friends that you finally made the leap. I’ve been sober for 7 years now. One day at a time buddy.”
It felt like any pressure or nervousness that I felt being at this party flew right out the window and cemented even further why this has been the best decision of my life. Pretty amazing stuff.
