Stay strong and put yourself around positive people

I can totally relate. I am always the first to leave when there’s alcohol involved. I always feel like it becomes a “switch that flips” as the scene goes from loose, relaxed and conversational to sloppy, repetitive and annoying. The friends that are normies rarely drink at least in front of me. But we do way more get- togethers that are dry that are so much more fun! The friends that will do this with you are keepers and matter. The others that disrespect and won’t, don’t matter.:woman_shrugging:t2:

Yeah in all honesty you're beyond that now. You can still be a good friend to them but unless they are willing to do other things that you enjoy outside of the bar, then I encourage you to open yourself up to a world of sober individuals who are like minded, caring and know how to have real fun!

Hang around a barbershop long enough, your going to get a haircut

Good morning Jamie and all- something else that was critically important was setting boundaries. I needed to be incredibly clear to my friends who drank that I was sober and they needed to respect that and be particularly vigilant about making sure everyone else did.

True friends of mine who drink know never to offer me a drink and we’re always sensitive to the situation.

So yes, I can now be able to go out and enjoy however a) boundaries have been set b) I work a rigorous recovery program and c) I have been consistently working a program for quite a long time.

Without these I would agree 100% with a lot that is said above.

Have a great day all!
