Recovery Milestones

What are some ways you celebrate recovery that does not relate to counting time/days/etc?

For example, though I do count days, I pay celebrate all of my ā€œfirstsā€ that are sober. Like first party, first night out, etc.

Every race I start and finish. The very fact that I get to compete is a gift of recovery. It helps that I know a lot of my fellow competitors are like us.

I think for me, is when I find myself on a fishing trip, vacation, trips to the beach, springs, rivers, lakes etc, with family, friends or both I find myself grateful and celebrating that I'm able to be physically and mentally there and present in the moment. Where in the past I would've made up any excuse to stay near my drug of choice so that I could get or stay high. Completely isolated away from family and true friends.

During the winter months taking trips to visit family and friends is a way I find myself celebrating.

Other times I find myself celebrating by getting myself a new pair of pants, shirt, hat, shoes, a hair cut. Just doing things for myself that I could've cared less about in active addiction.

I don't celebrate like some. To me being sober is a blessing. I thank God every sober morning.:pray::hibiscus:

I celebrate my sobriety in the priceless moments I have with my son - the laughing, the smiling, the closeness we are sharing. I am so grateful I get to be a sober mother and woman.

I love that. Appreciating the things you would never have cared about.
