I've recently been convicted indirectly. I've gone to so many meetings. I've been sober for 2 years and 1 month but in recovery for about two weeks. It occurred to me that as I've done the steps before I need not do them again and when I did do them I didn't dig deep and was shallow with them. I've been abstinent from my using not in recovery. Abstinence is in fact obstaining from using where as recovery is digging deep facing and understanding what compelled you to use and overcoming. That's the healing factor in the term recovery. As far as step work goes I'm going to reference the walk of Christians. They can't say ooh I read the Bible already. They read it over and over because it evolves with us as life carries on. Just the same the addict in my opinion needs to read the txt and work the steps over and over like the Christian reads the Bible because we're constantly evolving in life as is our understanding. Like the Sober Tip of the day said the other day "Sobriety isn't free it's rentented daily. What are you going to do to pay rent today" I added to it "If you find yourself paying rent and your still complacent give your landlord permission to raise the rent"
