I know my situation and others are not the same but for those who are suffering from relapse I thought I would throw this out there. I first got sober in 2004 and stayed that way for almost 5 years. I decided to pick up a drink because it would not hurt anything. Within a year I found that I had lost my family and was literally living in a shack on a friends ranch. That was not enough to sober me up though. I continued for a few more years until I finally decided I had enough. I was supposed to take my oldest son to New York City to celebrate New Year’s but knew that I would make life miserable for everybody. I put my tail between my legs, called various family members and told them I would not be able to make it. I called my original sponsor and had him pick me up, take me to put my animals in a boarding facility and checked into a detox program. After detoxing for three days I got out and immediately hit a meeting. Found a sponsor at my new home group and started working the steps with earnestness. The first few months was very hard even though I had been in the program for years before but I stuck with it. I continue to do the same thing and I’m still sober after 7 1/2 years. I know people do things differently but this is my story and this is what I did. At least for me it works. Maybe someone out there who is having a tough time will read this and give it a whirl, you never know, it may work for you too. Hope everyone is having a great day, and if you find it’s not so great just remember it’s only a day.
