Relapse

I relapsed after nearly 4 months completely sober; I thought maybe i could be the kind of person that just drinks casually after resetting my relationship with alcohol, but that very much turned out to not be the case. I embarrassed myself in front of friends and colleagues, behaved in hurtful ways to my partner, and feel like i threw away my streak for nothing but selfishness and stupidity. I thought i had met my rock bottom before but this is much, much worse.

I’m sorry for your struggles. While it is an awful situation, it can also be the greatest lesson learned moving forward. I think we all go thru this at some point. I know I did. I thought the same way after stopping for a period of time. However, after many failed attempts of “controlled” drinking, I found the alcohol was actually in control. At some point I had to accept the facts. So, while it’s a sad and horrible day, it’s also a new beginning for you. For many of us we need help. I know it’s popular today to change the terminology around a bit to make it sound better, but sometimes we just gotta do it the old fashioned way…AA or some other true recovery program. It has changed my life, and it can change yours too. This is just my suggestion and .02. Either way, I’m sorry and hope you find a solution to all of this

I'm so sorry Victoria. I bet many of have had similar experiences. Remember that we are more than our failures, and we still have today (thankfully). That alcohol poison is so tricky because it's everywhere and for me sometimes it seems fun with no problems but the fun stuff is really who we are with and what we're doing, not the alcohol. I know you can leave it behind.

Victoria do not whatever you do beat yourself up.
Relapsing after 4 months! That's nothing.
I relapsed after 14 and a half years of continuous sobriety after my wife passed away.
Biggest advice I can tell people is this!
Don't ever give up. Quitters never prosper winners always win. All it takes is the willingness! If you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it then you are ready to take certain steps. It's some of these we bought we thought we could all find an easier softer way but we could not.
We all learned sometimes quickly sometimes slowly but it will always materialize if we work for it.
One day at a time one minute at a time one second at a time one breath at a time whatever you got to do to get through that next thought urge craving dream you do it. You're on the right website. You have an amazing support system here. I like to call us all family. Because without everybody here I wouldn't be able to do what I need to do for myself to get myself through today. God bless you. May God hold you in the palm of his hands we leave the obsession to will the want the urge craving and any dreams you may have to want to use.
