Relapse

This one is for an ex husband. We’ve been having problems for awhile now. I decided to get sober to fix our relationship but he texted me not too long ago with some horrible things to say. I don’t know what to do but I also acted like I didn’t care. It hurts definitely.. so sad to say Day 0 on my sobriety again.

Can't do it for the relationship. Gotta be for you. If the relationship is gonna work, that comes as a by-product. Can't love anyone unless you love yourselves first, all that stuff. Good luck!

The truth is you chose to relapse. It is an excuse we have all tried to use at one point or another. Ya hit a “fu(k it” moment. You can not place blame on the outside influences as the “reason” just like we can not get sober for other people. Take it as a learning experience and get back involved with a program. Relapse happens, what are you going to do now with the lesson?

You are not alone. You need to make your self a priority.

What you can't do is allow someone else to affect your sobriety efforts. Focus on you and your growth, you also cannot get sober for anyone else but yourself. That creates resentment.

Starting over is okay, keep your head up high and don’t give up!!!

When someone says nasty things about you, they have a problem - not you. We don’t shoot our wounded. Get back in that recovery saddle! To quote Yoda, in Star Wars - The Last Jedi, “The greatest teacher, failure is”.

And tell him that it hurt - and why.
