Relapsed recently

I joined this app a while ago but i relapsed recently but this time i want to take it seriously. Alcohol has taken over my life to a point where i can’t work during the day because i’m hungover and at night i just get drunk again. I really want to work on myself and get better but i’m scared of withdrawal and how to handle my self control. Any advice would help. Thank you in advance.

It sucks being in the loop if you need medical help to detox might be a good idea I never got to that level thankfully. Quitlit podcasts and YouTube videos help shifted my perspective on drinking I’m still early in quitting though at 33 days

It sounds like you’re going to need to detox. The good news is insurance will cover most medical detox centers. And if alcohol controls that much of your life, this app is not going to get you clean. It can help, but you’re going to need the tools and support of an in-person fellowship like AA. It’s not something you can do by yourself - It could be if you just had a little problem, or habit. If it’s time to get serious then it’s time to ask for help.

Welcome Ryan! For me I had to check myself in to the local mental hospital. I was very fortunate I had medical insurance. They treated me for 47 days in an intense out patient program called IOP and then sent me to a 30 day residential treatment facility. That was the best thing I’ve done in a long time! However, what’s ultimately kept me sober is the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Working these steps daily has given me a new life.
I found out through this program that alcohol isn’t the problem it’s a solution to my “ME” problem. I had a few resentments & fears that drinking helped me overcome. Now that I don’t drink those resentments and fears were strong. The good news is I don’t have to drink to face my fears. I can lean in or call someone in the program, like my sponsor or his sponsor or other friends I’ve made and talk to them about it. Getting a different perspective on why I’m anger or afraid has helped me deal with a divorce, rebuilding trust with my family and being a dad to my son. AA has helped me. I’m here if you want to chat.

Bro, it does sound like you need to go to detox. It sounds scary, I had to do the same thing 266 days ago. Don't worry if you don't have insurance. I'll tell you the same thing that was told to me. If you go into the emergency room and say "I'm an alcoholic and I'm detoxing" They can't turn you away. I was so terrified and the emergency was freaking packed when I went in but I can tell you wholeheartedly, it was the best decision I've ever made. As soon as I got out I went AA got a sponsor, started working the steps, followed suggestions and wouldn't you know it, my life changed!! I never would of thought the life I have now was even possible for a guy like me. I was so sure that I was hopeless and messed up too much and too many times in my life. Turns out that was not the truth. Turns out that there was a higher power out willing to do for me what I couldn't do myself. I will forever be grateful to the men in my AA home group that have helped and continue to help do this deal.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Detox was the best thing I ever did for myself, they will help you safely get through withdrawals. I am now in an IOP program and am so thankful…
