Relapsed.....so that's cool

Relapsed.....so that's cool.

Do you know why?

I find that relapse is often not because there’s a drink in front of you but there is something undermining your motivation to stay sober. I have personally found that shame and guilt for my habit will offend my ego and that will cause anxiety that my insane alcoholic brain will justify getting a drink and send me into a relapse. We need to put the ego aside because it is not doing anything for us and forgive the people that are shaming us because they are afraid of what they are not understanding. Does that make any sense?
I find a great tool for getting rid of anxiety is mediation. Getting some exercise or getting hold of a nonjudgmental sober friend and belong told that you are not alone and that you are loved despite your illness.

Welcome back Travis! Knock off the dust and get up on the sobriety wagon. Find a meeting, get a big book, get a sponsor and read with your sponsor. Learn what the big book has to offer is alcoholics. There’s a lot of truth in that book! A new way of life is in that book.
We must forego a complete psychic change in order to recover from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. You got this! I’m here if you need anything

Right there with you, Travis. I’m trying to forgive myself and remind myself that relapse doesn’t cancel out the progress I’ve made. Feeding into the shame just increases the chances of an extended relapse (at least that’s been the case for me in the past). I hope you can show yourself the kindness that I’m sure you’d show others in your situation. We’re here for you!

Well don’t if it’s cool. Staying sober is cooler. Hope you can get it. Good luck.

Do something different (more) this time.

Relapse is a part of recovery. This disease wants us dead, don’t let it win! Keep trying until you succeed! We are all in this together….
