I'm a social worker in child welfare (for now). Every day I deal with addicted parents and family members and most of the time it doesn't really bother me. But today...I had an alcoholic mom that reminded me of myself. I don't have kids but I could relate. She denied being an alcoholic but the behaviors said otherwise. Hiding booze. Drinking heavily when the kids are sleeping. Drinking instead of eating. Drinking to dampen physical and emotional pain. Hiding booze in cups where you can't see it. (I've poured entire bottles of vodka into a tumbler so my roommate couldn't see it while I drank right in front of her). So many other things. It's hard to see yourself like that in others. But it made me think how horrible this whole thing can be. It made me think.

I understand.
As they say in AA “if you want what we have… then you are ready to take certain steps”
