Relationships in sobriety.. let’s talk about them!
I have over 7.5 years sober and feel As if the only thing I haven’t mastered yet in recovery is finding “the one”. I hear speakers share about how they found their special someone in the program or just in general and here I am just watching everyone flourish as I delve deeper into service work. I’ve worked and live the steps, I do the next right thing, very spiritual, and it’s like there’s just no one that actually can keep my interest which sucks because it takes a lot for me to be interested in someone. I don’t date much but it’s like wow, I start to compare myself to others when it comes to relationships and I know I shouldn’t. Who else can relate?
Relationship is one thing and sobriety is another. As addicts and alcoholics we come from a very scared past. Which means in turn, while not settling, we should definitely be giving room and understanding for differences. If it isn’t endangering you or the other person’s sobriety, you really want relationship and companionship, and the person is treating you well??? What am I missing???

I can only speak for myself. But after being divorced twice, I know my flaws in relationship. And I am looking without expectations, demands, and hierarchy. Because this time will be first time starting something being healed and dependent on a hire power. I hope you reach out and take what you’re looking for.
I relate. But I’ve found the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. As it says on the sobriety chips “be true to thine self”
Same! I’ve been single for better part of a decade! My ex is getting married tomorrow actually. I was drinking and living fast. That’s what I thought was “COOL” at the time. After being sober for a little I am like no wonder why I was single. I wasn’t healthy. Now that I am working on myself I’ve dated “girl from rehab” I know I know. They went back to partying and what not. And I am here alone. I am like WTH ? Like it sucks. I am here alone on a Friday night. Again. But I have to keep reminding myself if you build it they will come. “Building myself”!
Thanks for the subject help me !
Sheena, it’s a difficult thing at times. This app happens to be the only social media/app I have period. I’m trusting the process and figuring that the right person will come along as well. I’m considered a “big book thumper” so that might not help lol. But I do have proof in many other areas of life that this program works. I’ll keep working the steps and trusting my HP.
Hi Sheena, thank you for sharing! I wish you the best of luck in finding your special partner in the future. Definitely not an easy thing to do but I think this sobriety journey is a really positive step towards finding your person. All the best!
