Relief-

Relief

You slithered in unannounced and undetected whispering sweet promises into my ears to wipe away my tears. You said one drink and it would go away. One time and I’ll never be the same.

Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I didn’t see you coming. I thought you were my friend, you turned out to be my foe.
You promised one drink would take it all away. My pain, my fear the awkwardness I feel.
You delivered as promise and at first, it was fun. You gave me all I requested and then, some.

One drink is too many. One thousand is never enough. Instead of chasing peace. It was the drink I needed. Instead, of me now needing relief. I became the source of pain for everyone close me.

I didn’t know then, what I know now. That those promises you gave where only half of what you would deliver.

When you said you wanted to take it away. You spoke the truth. But, I didn’t know what you really wanted was everything. And, one by one with every drink. I slowly began surrendering everything. First, it was my hurt, fear and pain. Then, you began requiring other things. My values, morals, hopes and dreams. Followed by the ones close to me. Like a sniper, good on his shot you took them out without being seen.

I thought I found true love. But, it was not. I found nothing, instead I was sought out. They say that Love is blind we only see what we want to see. I trusted you and you lied to me. It’s only now that I see what I thought was a savior was the devil indeed.

I will never be the same. But, in time all things change. What is gone will not be returned. Instead in Gods hands the life he has planned will be restored.

I don’t need a bottle to get through the day. I don’t need a thief, when I have a King. I’m not lost, I’ve been found.

It’s not relief I chase. It’s freedom I want. Not, from person, places or things. But, instead from a beast who posed as a king.

Yep! Pretty much sums up alcoholism/addiction. It was a magical solution that eventually took control over me and left me feeling powerless over my decisions. I was a slave to my addictions. I’m grateful for the freedom I have today. I’m grateful for the awareness. Today I have a choice. Thank you for sharing that dark reminder :peace_symbol:
