Rigorously honest. What does it mean to you? What situations have you found in your recovery that took self honesty to change behaviors? I had to get honest about my drinking first, it was not normal, I couldn’t stop, I was an alcoholic, I was verbally abusive in my addiction, I needed help, my relationships were a train wreck, and most importantly for me I had to get honest about the fact that I was the cause of all my chaos I lived in. I’m a work in progress and still find things often that I have to get honest to myself to be able to recover.
I believe honesty is always the best policy, in addition to owning your actions. Accountability and honesty to me go hand in hand.
Agreed!!!!
It means I live my Life like an open book.
To be honest to yourself even when no one is watching
I was taught ..41 years ago..was vigorous SELF honesty. Hence the phrase " to thyne own self be true"
And giving an opinion doesnt make it fact
Look at japan the have barely any natural resources. How is this island one of the greatest nations in the world. Honesty, they put all effort they can into anything they make. If they make a promise they fulfill it. If they can’t do something they admit it.
I had to realize that I wasn't going to stop on my own. I was drinking around the clock, doing copious amounts of cocaine and hallucinogenics. I was completely out of my mind thinking I was going to trip myself sober. You know, "micro dose" myself to treat my addiction and depression. At the end I had to ask for help. I had to be honest with wanting it. I woke up in detox the next day and have remaind sober since. Everyday I wake up I need to remember who I am. My disease will try to convince me otherwise. I don't steal anymore, I don't hide anymore. I haven't needed to be reminded of what I did the night before. Getting rigorously honest with myself, got me sober. Getting honest with another alcoholic; keeps me sober.
Rigorous honesty to me is being painfully honest about everything. From my drinking to my thoughts and about those things which I intended to take to my grave. It takes rigorous honesty to purge those things which made me the sick person that I was. I had to get them out into the open and deal with them head on. Rigorous honesty didn’t come easy for me. It required a level of desperation that I don’t want to experience again. Cash register honesty is common. Rigorous honesty not so much. I believe it’s essential to my recovery!!
Don’t believe your own bullshit
You get it friend!! I hope there are lots of people that read your response.
Beautifully stated testimony of recovery!! It did not come easy for me either
Thanks Brian! We tried the easier softer way! Old habits die hard and the path of least resistance was a very comfortable route!!
You can’t bullshit a bullshitter. I’ve been a bullshitter my entire life. Until I decided to try this sober living, working a program thing. Not one real alcoholic I’ve met that I can bullshit. We are the same, but different. I have to check myself often on if I’m being truthful to myself and others.
That is a fact of recovery! We can sniff out a pile of doo doo
faster than a blood hound! I was the king of B.S
My alcoholism has destroyed all that i love in this life . My sobriety has taught me that i can live again. A new life that after 30 years of drinking is bringing me joy in ways unimaginable. I had to set pride aside and surrender myself completely and HONESTLY!!!
Thats what honesty means to me . It helped save my life

Hope is found in full surrender in our disease. Fantastic statement of recovery, thank you
No , thank you bruv
. It was your question that manifested my answer .
Good topic. Rigorous honesty means being honest in all things. The big one for me at first was being powerless over alcohol.
Today it’s different, it’s the little things. I’m 5’ 11”, I still want to say 6’. But that’s a lie.
Shooting the shi# with friends and “you know those 700R4 transmissions have weak vacuum modulators” I want to say oh yah I know. But I don’t know. So I say nope didn’t know that.
Something goes wrong at work and I can duck it by bending the truth……Nope, it’s hey boss, that was me.
Rigorous: extremely thorough and exhaustive
