The hardest lesson I've ever learned, is that some people enjoy the mess they are in. You can't help them because they want to be there.
What is a hard lesson you've learned in sobriety?

That I want people to be sober more than they want. It's a hard pill to swallow.
Oh my goodness so true.
That same lesson. My addict boyfriend played into wanting to get clean and be faithful because that game was the only way to keep me. I wanted that so bad I wouldn’t see the truth. That he doesn’t want to get clean and he doesn’t want to give up his other vices. Ultimately, the lesson is that I am not God and am not in control. I am not the director of life. When I interfere with, or go against His will I end up in destruction and remain in the bondage of self (and co-dependency for me). It’s a great risk to my sobriety as I have a hopeless condition and my only defense against the first drink is my higher power. I cannot afford to lose my relationship with Him for anyone or anything.
Wow, very good post, I absolutely respect the fact that you acknowledge the toxic situation you were in. I hope and pray the very best for you in your recovery. I think you could help a lot of people.
true. i enjoyed it.
Same lesson.
Powerlessness over alcohol and alcoholism.
There but for the grace of God go I.
Well said. Thank you for posting.
People don’t like me very much, honestly. I stick to my guns, speak my mind, and cane come off as an asshole. I work hard, am competent, and highly conscientious. I can be hard to take, a lot of the time.
That I made my mess, put myself in bad situations where bad things happened to me and no one is coming to save me. I have to finally try to save myself. That’s what I’ve learned and it was a hard thing to face.
I have realized that just because we want to better ourselves and confront our issues does not mean that others are ready to do the same .. this makes it harder to deal with other people
Maybe true but some peeps don't care about themselves ,low esteem, stuck on the past and belief they can do this alone. It's takes a community of people to let help and some don't even want that.
You can't make someone love you, no matter what you do or change about yourself, if they never did in the first place.
To love yourself first and become selfish to become a better person & to stay focused
