Self help?

I am not perfect. It’s crazy of me to think that I can save another addict or alcoholic if they’re not asking for help. Even when I asked for help I took it back. I toed the line for years. I’m lucky to be alive. But I want to help. It’s frustrating. Self help doesn’t work from my experience. Can anyone relate?

My sponsor reminded me that I need to stay on my side of the street. I have a hard time doing this. But today I had an awakening of sorts. I wrote a letter straight to my HP (God) I acknowledged that I need his help and that He is in control of all things. I lost trust and I’m gaining it back. But I MUST have God’s help AND the help from my AA Family. I cannot do this alone. Self help doesn’t work in my world but trusting God does.

I had to be ready. I would have told someone to fuck off if they tried to convince me I had a problem

This is what we do. I’m an alcoholic. But I sure as hell can’t help someone that doesn’t want help.

Once you get to a point in your recovery that you feel confident you can help others then do it. Helping others isn’t doing their work it’s guidance. Guiding them through the steps. Being there when the fall. And giving them what was freely given to us is the way of AA. You’re right, we can’t do this alone. It takes fellowship!
Stay strong my friend! You’re doing great! I love your prayer! Keep doing that daily! It works…
