I agree totally. I went completely across the country to Cali from PA. It’s a very long story, but seeing AA especially from a perspective other than my toxic hometown changed my life.
Mimi you were def in the same boat as I and others. I would be going to CA as well from Fargo ND
Can I ask what facility you went to?
Northbound, and anyone can always ask me anything.
Haha thank you! What was it like, showing up there completely so far away and scared.
I did what we always do. Thought detox was great and made a rehab boyfriend. Then that all went to s$&t and I got serious. I learned a great deal and am still friends with women I met there. Could have stayed but came home to my family as I have children. They are grown men now, but it was the right fall. Fantastic facility.
Nice!! There’s so many out there. Yeah id be leaving my other half of seven years and our three pets/kidos. That will be hard as heck but will be worth it in the end. She’s exploring going to alanon to help with all this so I’m grateful for that too
I think that’s a great choice for her. Hugely helpful!!!!
Id be there for 30 days but I will do after care as well and we’re thinking about 4 months or so total.
The more time you can the better. I have to go but chat anytime. Thus helps me too.
I did the same thing. From SC to Cali, knew nobody but I had a God-shot opportunity. I know it’s scary but do it. You’ll have community & support & it will be the best decision you ever make. Promise.
Same here. Initially I thiught no way could I go that far for that long. That was my initial reaction. But the outreach person who is helping has alleviated so many concerns and I have a real shot at doing this without it being too much of a burden. I just think of all the other addicts who don’t have insurance who are in far worse situations and wouldn’t take a second thought at an oppurtunity like this. Im finalizing some loose ends and will be calling HR for fmla.
It’s worth it, take this opportunity!!!
Dude I went to rehab and didn't want to leave lol. Is this one Step based? If your partner/pets/kids are safe at home for the time you'll be away, I'd say that it's a huge opportunity! A chance to devote 100% to getting well, finding a solution, and taking action?! Heck yes!
If your ready. Heck yeah! I just moved to Connecticut and I’m basically starting over in Sobriety and in life and I’m pretty darn happy but I’m finally ready
I traveled to New Jersey and Washington, DC my salvation was that I read and prayed a lot
Next month I’m going to Europe on the 2nd for 3 weeks. That’s a lot of days without a meeting whether I am going to zoom a meetings or in person. check the meeting guide app to see where You can attend while in California. I’ve been sober since July 9, 2021 and I don’t want to take a chance. I worked way too hard to get where I am today. You too, can do, just read the book and pray to your higher power. I’ll keep you in my prayers buddy.
I went to rehab 3 times. It's a very positive experience It's definitely better than dying from this thing. If you have the chance to change your life take it!!
I had to leave my beautiful son to attend treatment three states away for 120 day minimum. It was such a hard decision at the time…but it saved my life. I’d do it again in a heartbeat, as difficult as it was and as much as I cried over being far away. Do what works best for YOU.
I did 30 days then 120 days and it was the best decision I made despite being terrified. 200 percent worth it.
Do it. Change is scary. If you continue to not pursue change bc it’s scary you’ll be going in circles. Dive in head first and be a student of AA. Listen to all the counselors and enjoy what you learn about yourself
