Singleness of purpose in AA

Not taken a drink in 4 years. Not smoked pot for 1½ years. Struggle in AA not talking about pot.

Some people say “dry goods” where I’m from to keep it more general. In my experience, lots of people in AA talk about being addicted to alcohol “and other things.”

I’m 3 plus years with out alcohol and weed (my kids make fun of me when a call it pot lol). Truth be told, I have other “outside issues’ as well. There’s not enough days in the week if I had to go to a different group for each issue lol. I just go to AA, but I make it clear I suffer from other party favors and issues. Most of my AA friends are in the same boat to one degree or another. We talk about and support each other outside of the hour meetings. The meetings I attend are fairly tolerant to it, as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. Maybe you can find a younger and more tolerant group. I’m a believer we can stick to the singleness of purpose, and be tolerant to those who may have other issues in conjunction with alcoholism. Maybe try some zoom MA meetings on the side. Either way, congratulations on your recovery

I understand that I be wantin to take a drink every now and then or drug but I have to remember this it’s bout to be 2025 what have I been giving up all my life for socializing purposes or jus to do it… it’s time to reprogram my brain and make an effort to Function without any mind changing substances and jus have a clear mind at my decisions and actions that way there’s no way I can be in the wrong about anything I do

2025… amen

Yep heard the " dry goods" for years

I WAS diagnosed as a MIDDLE STAGE WETBRAIN ALCOHOLIC WITH A DRUG PROBLEM. IT TALKS ABOUT DRUGS IN THE BIG BOOK ALSO... IM IN AGREEMENT THAT IS APART OF YOUR STORY AND HAVE NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED ABOUT. TRUST THE PROCESS OF RECOVERY AND YOU WILL HAVE IT. ONE DAY AT A TIME
