Sleepiness

I have been sleeping more than usual. I am out of work at the moment and find myself going back to sleep in the morning and napping in the afternoon. I start work this week and am worried I won’t make it thru the day. Is the sleepiness normal? I’m taking vitamins and drinking water. Any other suggestions?

Hi Valerie . Not sure what you're recovering from, but I did the same thing for a little while. Fortunately I was not working at the time and needed that time to catch up on sleep and rest. My body needed it since I used alcohol to help me sleep and that messed up my sleeping habits. Instead of taking a nap, I took up walking. That helped keep my mind and body occupied and gave me an umph of energy to last me throughout the day til bedtime. :relieved: although that was during summer. Maybe hone in on some of your interests? Perhaps arts and crafts? Reading? Couponing? The possibilities are endless  hope that helps :woman_shrugging:

Thank you Sam. It’s alcohol that I’m trying to stay away from. I’m working on some new interests and some self care. I actually enjoy the sleep. It’s different from alcohol induced sleep.

Our brains begin healing and rebooting after we take our substance away. It takes time and the brain needs to shut off while it heals. It’s totally normal for us to sleep a lot in early recovery. It will level out. Be kind to yourself and allow your body to do what it needs to heal. Keep up the good work, your worth it!!

Aww thank you so much! I am excited to be a better me!

Enjoy it! I can’t sleep hardly at all anymore.

I had a period of time after alchohol and benzos that I was sleeping long nights then getting up and a few hours later napping then getting up and a few hours later a 2nd nap etc and it was tough to get through the day. About 20 months out now though and it's no longer a problem at all. Lots of energy.

Oh my I like the sleep but I have to get busy. Oh well my body deserves what it needs. I’ll work it out

I think you will get back to normal with work.

Yes time to get back to work.

I’m looking for a job where I am more busy myself. I got too much time on my hands.

Got to stay busy.
