Sleeping

I quit using crystal meth 3 months ago. Im ADHD and I stay so hyper nowadays that I get on my own nerves. No lie. Sleep seems to get harder and harder to come by. I lay there for hours, sometimes crying, because I just want to sleep and can’t. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes it’s fairly common for awhile. That was my DOC and I have adhd as well. I ended up being on a low dose of a mood stabilizer for 9 months after being clean. I took it at night and it helped me sleep. It was only for awhile to knock me out of the psychosis I was experiencing from drug use. It saved me from so much pain. I was also prescribed another medication for sleep that isn’t a sleeping pill. It really helped. I’m not saying go to a Dr, but please consider it. Outside help is okay.

I’m sorry to hear that you struggled but it makes me feel better to know that it’s fairly normal. I know I have to do something because the lack of sleep is a huge trigger for me.

That was also my DOC. The ADHD symptoms often tend to settle down over time. If your not comfortable taking prescription medication; maybe you could consider a holistic approach; vitamins such as melatonin for sleep etc. Hang in there. You're NEVER alone

For sure in early recovery

I recommend just trying to get as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and enjoy that until sleep comes.

Lots of us have emotional and mental disorders. Therapy and medications have helped me. This may sound weird but I almost welcome discomforts because I can offer it up for the still suffering alcoholic. I bet someone did this in the past for me and it helped me accept the miracles of our program

That’s beautiful!

Take melatonin to help feel sleepy. Reading before bed can help, or because you have so much energy just workout as hard as you can before bed to wear yourself out. A warm bath before bed can help as well. Drinking chamomile tea can make you sleepy also. If all else fails just get a journal from the Dollarstore and write out your thoughts and high leveled energy using pen and paper. Hope you get a good night's rest.

Magnesium supplements are great for sleep, too.

Yes I used the same drug and I have ADHD but I take ADHD pills to combat the side effects of they ADHD.
I would go to detox and they could give you suggestions on how to deal. That's all I did and I have a year and 8 months clean. Maybe put a app on your phone that does waves or rain that can calm you down it seems to help alot of ppl. It helped me too for when I couldn't sleep

Try Melatonin 10mg gummies. They work for me. Non narcotic and non addictive

Don't forget your body is still healing and will continue to for awhile. Our brain chemistry is rewiring and getting used to a new normal. I would drink myself to sleep so it took awhile to be able to sleep without mess. Hot baths, sleepy teas n full belly helps me!

Great to in this thread. Your brain is still healing, and that can take time. You’re doing something amazing by staying clean—this tough part will pass.

Are you mobile device friendly? You could set up a bed time and wake up alarm. It helps me tremendously!
